Jürgen Schult and the Discus World Record

This is currently the longest standing world record in men's athletics.

Even so ... not a very fair question, IMHO. There are only really three possible answers: discus, javelin, or hammer throw. And who carries these figures around in their head?

The world record for the hammer throw is the second longest standing. Set on 30 August 1986 (85 days after Schult's discus record) by Yuriy Sedykh of the Soviet Union, it stands at 86.74 metres.

The current world record for the men's javelin is 98.48 metres, set by Jan Železný of the Czech Republic in 1996.

In order to be a little more prepared for similar questions in the future, I'm going to try and remember that the javelin has been thrown the furthest, then the hammer, then the discus.
